Poetic Novels
"My Heroin
My Heroin. She always saves the day. Numbs my mind and kills the pain away.My Heroin. She wraps me in bliss. My veins pulsate to the sting of her sweet kiss.My Heroin. She lets me believe that i'm someone else. Someone good. Someone not myself. My Heroin. She frees my soul.My life shattered and broken. She makes me whole. My Heroin. She never stays for too long. Her love fades away.My body screams when she is gone.My Heroin. She will be my death. She will be the end.I can't let her go.She's my greatest friend. "
I chose this poem because it relates very well to the novel Candy. Not only does it describe Candy's addiction to heroin, it describes Joe's love (or addiction to) Candy. Candy can't live without heroin, and Joe can't live without Candy."My body screams when she is gone" This line really describes the agony they both go through when they can't have what they want. "She lets me believe that i'm someone else. Someone good." This line relates to what Candy says in the story, about heroin numbing the pain of her past, and allowing her to live the life of a prostitute without really feeling the pain. This poem really captures the up's and down's of Joe's fight to save Candy, and Candy's fight to save herself.
